First Birthday Cake #1

We finally celebrated Hailey's birthday with Grandma and Grandpa by going out to dinner at Claim Jumpers, where we got her a gigantic slice of "Motherloader's Six-Layer Chocolate Cake". This is her first taste of cake! Of course she liked it! Although it was a bit late by the time we got to cake time so she was a bit grumpy.

Hailey turns 1 year old!

I can't believe Hailey's one already. Time sure flies! She is 31-3/4" (97th percentile) and 23 lbs. 13 oz. (85th percentile). She's wearing 2T pants. Her favorite word is "Baby" (well, and "Nai Nai" (milk in chinese) and new words include "diaper", "Mei Mei" and "Go Go" (which is doggie in chinese). She says "Ba Ba" (daddy in chinese) a lot but sadly "Ma Ma" is extremely rare. She can sign milk, eat, all done/all gone, down, and of course, point to whatever she wants. She can take 5 or so steps and can stand pretty well. She just learned to stand from a squatting position without any help.

She's definitely starting to test boundaries...e.g. We're working on "no throwing" (especially food, but she really likes to feed Mei Mei ... blame Ben for that one.) Now she will hold the food in her hand above the floor and just stare at me when I say no. Then she'll eat it or hand it back to me. But as soon as she gets another one, she'll hold it over the floor again. The other thing we're working on is "No pulling (mommy's hair)". That one's not going over so well...she usually ends up crying when I say no to that one.

Hailey took some one-year pics at Picture People today. Then she spent the rest of the day and night at Grandma and Grandpa's because Mommy and Daddy were too sick to take care of her...isn't that sad?! She was sick this week too but got over it in a couple days. We weren't so lucky! Unfortunately we had to postpone Hailey's birthday party until next weekend. Sorry, Hailey!

Hailey had a playdate at Park Meadows Mall with her new friend Wesley! They had a grand time crawling around the mall.

"Whew, you sure are fast, Wesley! But I'll catch up eventually!"

We went crib shopping for Hailey's brother today, but no luck. Took a lunch break at a little Moroccan/Greek restaurant where Hailey had lots of fun with a spoon.

Teeth #5 & 6

After a few restless nights, two more teeth are present and accounted for! Last night she was up from 2am until 7am. Poor girl! But she now has four on top and two on the bottom. Yay! I'm sure more are on the way since she's still chewing away at her fingers and constantly has her tongue out!

Enchanted

Hailey has a favorite movie ... Enchanted! Grandma and grandpa were over to watch it tonight and she would stop playing anytime a song would come on and she'd get up on her knees, sway and clap. So cute!

Lions, tigers and bears

It was 65 degrees and sunny today, so Ben and I took Hailey for her first trip to the Denver Zoo! She had a slight diaper leak issue, but thankfully we had extra outfits in the car ... disaster averted! We had so much fun, but all three of us were in dire need for a nap afterwards. The extra seat in the double Bob looked soooo tempting...

Elephants were her favorite. They were the most animated ... and hard to miss!

We didn't get to the real giraffes, so these giraffe statues had to do for now. (After a couple of hours, we only made it to 1/3 of the park!)
